TIP 1: Switching to eco-friendly cleaners for your home

We need reliable cleaners more than ever during this time and I find harsh chemicals irritating for my skin, especially now that I am cleaning more than ever. In addition to being bad for our bodies, the synthetic dyes, fragrances, and preservatives are extremely harmful to our planet. I have been loving the bio-alternatives I found and these are my favorites.

Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds is a concentrated hard-surface all-purpose cleaner. It is made with plant-based surfactants and natural fir needle and spruce essential oils (no cheap, harsh pine stump oil), without any synthetic dyes, fragrances or preservatives. I use this stuff on ever and any surface imaginable. You only need the smallest amount each time and this product will last for a very long time. I am still not even a fourth way done with my first bottle.

Seventh Generation dish soap, rinse aid, and dishwasher pods. This brand even makes bacteria wipes. They are plant-based and better alternatives for the planet.

I linked these and other products mentioned in this blog post in the following link for easy access.

TIP 2: Choosing cleaner, more sustainable beauty products for your skin

Erno Laszlo: I don't sleep enough and the Erno Laszlo eye masks are the only things keeping me looking human. I love them so much!

After years of testing, innovating, and developing with their team, Erno Laszlo announced today that the brand will be completely sustainable and clean by the end of 2020.

On May 1, they’re introducing their very first product with a fully clean formula

Josie Maran: I have been loving all the argan oil products in Josie Maran’s line, especially when my skin is feeling extra dry and needs extra moisture. The Whipped Argan Face Butter is my holy grail. I have hit pan on my jar and I need to order the second jar ASAP!!!

The following is taken from the Racked interview with Josie Maran herself. She was asked about the sustainability of her product:

How do you get the argan oil for your products?

"The oil only grows in Morocco but a lot of people in the area sell it. The oil is protected by UNESCO so that it's sustainable and the trees aren't cut down. All the argan trees are harvested by women's co-operatives, but a lot of [the people working in the area] are corrupt. Morocco isn't the most politically safe place and women don't have equal rights. So I went there to meet with different people and make sure they were doing what they said they were doing. [The people I work with] make sure money is given back to the women, the wages are fair, and the farm is sustainable."

Fresh beauty: My go-to clean/sustainable lip products! I use the sugar lip polish followed with the advanced therapy religiously and it leaves my lips baby soft.

When one speaks of the brand Fresh, natural ingredients come into mind — naturally. It has always been the front-runner when it comes to natural skincare, proven with its long-term efforts in advocating natural ingredients all across its website, social media platforms, and even packaging.

Boscia: Not only is the co-creator Lan a supermom and an amazing beauty guru, but she is also a friend of mine. I love everything in her line especially the 3 step serum that was just launched.

YES, you heard it right, 3 serums, But trust me it’s worth the extra few minutes of your time. Besides, you can always use them individually as well.

The brand uses ultra-clean, chemical preservative-free processes on all their products. Instead of using harsh chemical preservatives, Boscia uses natural ingredients that have major skincare benefits

Rodan + Field: I love Rodan and Fields beauty with a passion. They make some of the most effective skincare out there. When I was suffering from acne the UNBLEMISH line saved my skin!

These are products where you can see the visible difference in your skin.

I am currently loving the microdermabrasion past and body replenish for a full-body treatment

Rodan + Fields product containers are manufactured and handled in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations. In addition, 100% of Rodan + Fields paper packaging is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. Through a U.S. program with TerraCycle, empty R+F product containers are now recyclable.

Le Labo: If you know me at all, you will know without a doubt that my signature scent is Santal 33 from Le Labo.

Funny story: This fragrance even got me my last job - I was at an event when I walked by my boss and she loved the scent and stopped me to talk. She told me that she used to use the same scent and that the only reason she stopped was that her guy friend started using it and asked her if he can have the scent (She was 10000 times more generous then I am lol, I would never in a million give up wearing the scent to anyone) But long story short, we bonded over the amazing scent and stayed in touch over the next couple months which lead to me becoming her app’s consultant.

Get this: Le Labo will refill your empty Le Labo fragrance bottle and give you 20 percent off the original price when doing so.

SUSTAINABLE ON BOTH THE PLANET AND YOUR WALLET

Raincry: Whether it’s sourcing environmentally-friendly materials or crafting products in artisanal workshops, RAINCRY is committed to creating luxury products that are both high-performing and sustainably-created.

The shampoo and conditioner in their line is one of the most luxurious-feeling products I have ever put in my hair

TIP 3: Using reusable towels instead of single-use paper towels.

We might not realize it but single-use paper towels really add up, especially now that we’re home all the time. We need to clean up spills, clean

countertops (and everywhere else), and even drying our hands after constant hand washing. Before we know it, we have gone through rolls and rolls of paper towels which equate to lots and lots of dead trees across all our households. We can make the very simple choice of choosing reusable towels that can be used hundreds of times over compared to just once.

My personal favorite is the cotton hand towels from Muji that I got on sale but I also linked some other options on my amazon store along with the other products.

TIP 4: Switch from one-time hash chemical dryer sheets to reusable dryer balls

It’s a no brainer, they’re...

  • Faster Drying Time, which makes them dry much more efficiently than sheets and liquid softeners.

  • Static Elimination. Static build-up happens in the dryer because your clothes cling together.

  • Fragrance-free.

  • Eco-friendly and Sustainable.

The ones I use are linked here: https://www.amazon.com/shop/angelzheng_?listId=11DB3XAF1GZZ8&ref=cm_sw_em_r_inf_list_own_angelzheng__dp_TGNoqLwfmziVr

TIP 5: Implement meatless Mondays (or any other day of the week)

Did you know it takes 410 gallons of water to make a pound of beef?

Animal agriculture is a large contributor to greenhouse gasses. The livestock has to be fed, transported, butchered, and then transported again to reach you. So cutting meat out one day of the week will be a great start to help our planet.
